32. Lost in Translation

Somewhat apprehensively Liam re-read the orthodox accounts of the Old Testament. He could see tattered threads of Egyptian and Babylonian history but the weave was lost in translation. Or was it lost in fabrication? The scribes once knew everything but at some point down the generations they lost the plot. Not only lost the plot, but made up a new one as history merged into mythology and mythology into religion. In a moment of unguarded optimism he thought he may gather enough evidence convince Cardinal Borgia, but that was a forlorn hope. He would think of another way to outflank the Cardinal.

The Old Testament scribes wrote that the ‘god’ of their fathers was …a light that appeared out of Zion and went forth as an all consuming fire. The light was awesome and terrible out of its holy places !…made in secret and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth…taken and brought forth out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt. 2
